SCRAP FX (technique) BLOG HOP!!!!

Hi everyone...

Its blog hoppin time!!!

This hop is a little different from the normal.  Instead of just showing off some of our latest designs, we are here to share some cool techniques along the way!
Look what you have a chance to win?!!!!!

ABSOLUTELY DROOL WORTHY!

So...
You should have arrived here from the awesome Michelle Hernandez's blog.
If, you are off track don't worry, we have you covered!

Here is the blog list:

For my technique,  I had planned to share some distressing techniques through a video.  Unfortunately, I have made video after video and I delete them because I'm a serious slob and I just want it to look better.  However, I finally decided that some of my favorite artists are very sloppy when they create so I made a decision to quit worrying about it and embrace my inward (ok, its apparent outwardly sometimes too! ;)  ) slob and make the dang video!

The only problem with that was that I waited too long and couldn't get it edited on time.
Soooo...I shamefully had to hang my head and come up with something new. In a hurry!

So, I am sharing a technique of adding (and melting) mesh to chipboard.

First, apply a light coat of gesso.
Then, once the gesso is dried, apply some adhesive.  Make sure that you apply it thick but evenly over the front of the the chippy.  If you get too much on the sides the mesh will bunch up and will make it harder to remove it. My mesh is actually tulle.  In the past when creating backgrounds though, I have used tulle, old path pouf's, and some thin punchinella.
Note: if you are doing this to a wordlet, you will want to make sure its a "chunky" type of font.  You would lose detail to some of the thinner more elegant wordlets.
Once you have applied the glue to the chippy place the mesh over it and press down (I used my bare hands and tried to press hard trying to embed it into the chippy a little.   Then apply more glue to the top.
Let Dry
Once its dry, make sure that the mesh is all adhered.  If you find any that just didn't stick, repeat the glue part of the process again.

Then comes the fun part....

Confession Time
I really love to burn things!!! Once I found out that it wouldn't really cause me to wet the bed anyway... ;)
I flipped it over so that the mesh curls towards the front more.  Its easier to get rid of the "crispies" that way.

At this point all of the burnt edges should be nice and crispy, and easy to wipe off...
So its time to clean that thing up!
although, this look could be kind of cool with a beach layout???  Looks kind of like something thats been brought to shore, right?  Maybe not. lol

And...I totally forgot to take a pic of the finished wordlet!
Ooops!  Sorry about that.

Here is the layout I used it on...

Soooooo, How do you get a chance win some awesome chippies from me, and be entered to win the grand prize, you ask?

Well...
