An altered journal and a washi tape vine tutorial

Happy Friday all!  Just taking a sec to share with you an altered journal I made for Gauche Alchemy.

I'm entering this into the Berry71Bleu Together challenge where they are featuring the use of Chipboard and boy do I love chipboard!!!  I have a plan for another project that I'm hoping to finish up today for that Berry Bleu challenge as well, but I'm so full of good intentions that sometimes never happen, so we will see!

If you want to join in you have until midnight EST. tomorrow...

This was made out of one of the cheap art journals that you can find at walmart...you know with the flimsy cardboard top.  To give it a stronger structure I made a frame out of ouchless cardboard then gesso'd the entire cover.

Here you can see the diy vine that I made.  I forgot to share that blog post so you will be able to find that tutorial at the bottom of this post.  I wrapped my vine around the beautiful Scrap Fx stick frame and then put an "imagine" wordlet in the center of it.

I did alot of distressing to this journal!

So are you interested in knowing how to make your own washi vine?

Its super easy to do!

First you want to have some wire and washi tape handy...

To begin you start twisting the washi around the wire.  I try to do it as tight as possible but if you do have some loosey goosey area's its nothing another piece of washi can't fix!

Sorry these photo's are terrible!  Once you've covered your wire its time to start adding some leaves...

I like to double up a piece of washi and then add them to the vine with glue.  I'm a horribly lazy and use hot glue.  I know longer have feeling in my finger tips so I'm ok with constantly burning my fingers now. :)

For the sake of this tutorial I drew on my leaves, but normally I just cut out the shapes.

after the leaves are cut I start "pinching" the leaves onto the vine with some glue.  I don't keep them on one side of the vine but stick them all over so that if I'm wrapping it around something like the journal above it will look more like a real vine...?

Finally, I added some rolled roses to each leaf and the vine was complete for my project.

This particular vine went around a plaque that I made.
This was a cardboard circle that I painted and crackled.  Then I tried playing around for the first time with some Utee (its going to take some extra practice because I applied layers and layers and still had a bumpy texture).

In the center of the plaque I added a "Home is where the heart is" wordlet and some butterflies from Scrap Fx.

Hope you enjoyed this journal and the vine tutorial!  If you try this tutorial out let me know, I would love to see it!

Thanks bunches for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I love that diy vine and there's every chance in the world I'll be making up bunches of it for my winery-themed wedding next year.

Though I think I'll start with the leaves, and sandwich some wire between the washi layers, so I can just wrap them into the vine as I go. Since, you know, I /do/ still have feeling in my fingertips and want to keep it that way :)
