we'll miss you blue! A project and a tribute...

So today's post is more than just an opportunity to share a project with you. Its a moment for me to honor a good and faithful fish, that swam by our family's side for 3 years!

Seriously, I never expected for this fish to live 3 years.  I would forget to feed him most days and he still kept swimming?!  That is...until the day I decided to give him a new home.

I had been searching pinterest a couple of months ago and came up with the cutest candy dish idea in the form of a gumball machine and fell in love!  Its like the easiest, but most brilliant idea ever!

The original idea is from the Oh Crafts blog, courtesy of Kara Allen.

When I saw this, I thought of how cool it would be to "Gauche" it out and turn it into a fishbowl.

So that's what I did!

You can see full product details here.

Cute right?

I really thought ol' blue would love his new home
Guess what?
He didn't!!!

I later found out that I messed up because apparently you are supposed to wash the pebbles that go in the bottom of the bowl?!
If the pebbles are made for the fish tanks why wouldn't they make them ready to use?
I got some crap for not reading the directions but who would think it was necessary?
Decorative rocks go in bottom of bowl...seems simple to me!

So there it is, a cute fishbowl but no fish to swim in it. :(
I ended up giving it to my sister...hopefully she has better luck! lol

Go check out Gauche Alchemy to see the cute cartoon alchemist Jenn "scraps" made for me in memory of Ol' Blue!  She is a very talented cartoon artist!

I will be sharing another bubble gum machine that I made for want2scrap next weekend...this time an actual candy dish but glammed up with lots of w2s bling!

Thanks for stopping by!  Hope you have a fantastic and blessed weekend and that your fish are kept warm and snuggly in their tanks!

Let me know if you try your own diy bubble gum machine, I would love to check it out! (just link up below)

.....but will your sister fit in the bowl?!

Poor ol' Blue, and you're right, I wouldn't expect to have to wash pebbles if they are designed for use in fish tanks. And he was an ancient fish, so maybe his rehoming and subsequent demise was a coincidence?

Great 'Gumball Machine'!

Very interesting and different. Looks like a lot of fun to create. We don't own fishies but my boys would love these. I wonder what else you could fill it with...
Love your base. The punchinella looks great! Lovely texture as usual!
