Finally Free!

Hi everyone! I really hope everyone had a fantastic holiday last week. I had really hoped to post over this last weekend but things were just too busy and I didn't get any time to scrap. I finally had a moment to throw together a layout fairly quickly Monday night. It was only quickly because it was part of a scraplift challenge that I took part in over at sb.com. I lifted Janet F, you can see her layout here. I love joining the challenge because like sketches, it takes the guess work out of coming up with a design, so I can spend more time trying to find a creative way of making it "mine".

This page is of my sweet nephew. I titled it "finally free" because he has been freed from a very destructive hand in his life and it has liberated he and his sisters to live life again and return to innocence...giving them a chance to be kids again.
This was originally a white piece of cardstock.  I have to thank Kat P., because I am...how you say...financially challenged, and I received the most Generous R.A.K. ever from her and her blog!  I was down to some not so inspiring colors in my mists and recieved 3 TA mists along with tons of papers and other awesome miscellaneous goodies!  Please stop by her blog...she is an amazing scrapartist and you will love gawking through her pages!

Used modeling paste and a Scrapfx brick wall chippie as a stencil.  The finally letters are also scrapfx.

Thanks to the wedding depts in most craft stores I have tons of doves, and plan on using them often. The sword is actually an olive pick that I painted.

Thank you so much for stopping by.  I appreciate all of the support!  Hope you have a great hump day!

Punky Scraps #35 Get Picky!

Its reveal day today for challenge #35 at Punky Scraps.  My favorite challenge of the month,  Get Picky! This month team B picked quite a variety of ingredients for us to work with.

Mandy:  masking
Nat: no pattern paper
Elin: use stars and lots of them!
Kim: exposed cardboard
Sara:  a page from a book
Amy:  Bottle caps
Maxell: masking or washi tape
Cheryl C: 3 or more staples
WOWZA! Now that was a list!

So, onto my layout.  The picture was inspired by a pic I found online here. I had actually hoped to use the actual pic but couldn't get in contact with Katie, so I had to resort to my photography skills (or lack there of).  Actually, I'm happy with the pic that I took from my Iphone with the hipstamatic app.  Here is the my pic:

I love how the light shines down on her but also looks like its shining from her....

I titled the layout "Warrior"

you can see the masking, staples, book page, and masking tape from this view...the barbed wire and title letters are both awesome chippies from ScrapFx

Here you can see the smashed bottle cap under the metal flower.  This idea was actually lifted from Mija, I am absolutely amazed by her work...she is a very inspiring artist.

So, for those who are still following along I will share some extra thoughts.  This layout is all about faith and prayer and how we as Christians are supposed to put on the armor of God daily.  I burned the bible edges as a reminder to never be a lukewarm Christian but to always be on fire for God...which is also why I chose the key hole I did...because it looked like flames.  The netting...well I just love to use netting...but also it reminded me of a fishing net and that we are to be fishers of men.  Unfortunately, too many Christians, including myself, have failed in this area.  We are too busy judging and not showing Gods love...all while doing so in the name of Christ.  So, with that said, comes Gods grace...for the lost and the Christians, like myself, who screw up daily.  I used the barbed wire to symbolize the crown of thorns...and the bow reminded me of how his grace and mercy are gifts that He's given to us eventhough none of us are deserving of it!

So once again...some deep thoughts by Misty! ;)

Thank you so much for looking!  I really appreciate all of your support...

2 stop time...

Hi there!  Its challenge #34 over at punky scraps and this time we have a great sketch by Camilla.

When I saw the squares, pressed tin came to mind.  So I embossed foil tape with some embossing tools that my mom handed down to me...I think they are from the stone age but they did the job!  Below is a picture of one of them.
Needless to say, I have put in a special request for a big shot for my birthday coming up!

This page is of my son this last spring.  We just celebrated his 5th birthday 2 weeks ago and I was really struggling with how fast time has gone!  I was looking through old pics and it really broke my heart to think of some of the mistakes I've made being a first time mom...the poor kid has had the bad end of the deal while I've learned this whole parenting thing!

I've used lots of wire, eyelets, and gold and silver embossing powder to stick with the metal theme.  The Cogs and angel wings are from Scrapfx.  I altered them with embossing powders and distress ink.

Here area  few close ups:
The journaling is hard to see in the background.  It says, ""You are growing too fast. I sometimes look back and wonder where the time went, and how I could have made the moments more memorable.  I just want you to know how much I love you, and how proud I am of the little man your becoming!"

Punky Scraps #33-broken pieces

Hiya!  I have a quick post today for the reveal of Challenge #33 at Punky Scraps.  I have been MIA alot lately, mainly because I've been searching for my mojo...I've looked everywhere but its nowhere to be found!!!  However, I  managed to force this layout featuring my "adopted" niece Alexis (that makes 3 nieces with the Lexi name).  She is going through some tough changes and the quote from this weeks challenge reminded me of Philippians 4:6-7, and how it does us no good to worry!

The awesome window and letters are from scrapfx.  I used a transparency behind the window then applied crackle accents to give a shattered glass effect...unfortunately, it didn't really crackle???  I don't know if its because of putting it on the transparency or what?  I'm a bit of a ditz though, so I wouldn't be surprised if I used glossy accents instead! lol

Thanks for looking, and have a great weekend!!!!
